You may have encountered situations where you are required to make statutory declarations to government bodies, government agencies, statutory boards or other government organisations.  Statutory declarations are required for some government departments or statutory boards.  The statutory form of a statutory declaration can be found in the Oaths and Declarations Act (Chapter 211).  The statutory form must be completed properly before you go to a Commissioner for Oaths in Singapore.  You must bring your identity card along when you appear before a Commissioner for Oaths.  If the statutory declaration is to be used in other countries (i.e. outside Singapore), the statutory declaration needs to be signed before a Notary Public in Singapore. Statutory declarations are solid documentary  evidence in the event there is any dispute or if you need to prove a relevant fact in court. Six precedents on statutory declarations are annexed to this document.
